Parking at Sanssouci Palace

The short answer: the closest car park is P1 at the Historic Windmill, An der Historischen Mühle, on the upper level by the visitor centre and the step-free route to the Ehrenhof. P2 is on Voltaireweg, and there is an underground garage at Luisenplatz at the Green Gate end of the park. All are paid. On a summer weekend, or any day with a fixed slot to make, I would take the train and the bus instead.

Which one to aim for

P1 if you have a palace slot, because it is level with the Ehrenhof and next to the lockers. P2 on Voltaireweg if P1 is full. Luisenplatz if you want to start at the Green Gate and walk up the terraces, or if you are combining the palace with lunch on Brandenburger Straße; see where to eat. None of them is large enough for a July Saturday, and circling for a space is how people miss a timed slot.

Why I say take the train

Potsdam Hauptbahnhof is about 40 minutes from central Berlin on the S7 and about 25 on a regional train, and bus 695 or X15 does the last 10 minutes to the palace. The palace is bound to a slot; the S7 runs every 10 minutes. That is the whole argument. Details on how to get there.

If you drive, arrive well before the slot, park at P1, use the lockers, and walk the level Maulbeerallee to the Ehrenhof rather than going down to the fountain and back up 132 steps.
